Through exploring the events of the Titanic, the children will look at notable people aboard the Titanic, the history of the Titanic and also analyse how the passengers felt. They will capture the atmosphere of the sinking of the Titanic by evaluating Jim McDonald's art work and investigating different pastel techniques. Autumn 2
The Visitor
Using the text ‘The Visitor’ by Antje Dann, the children will begin to understand and infer the characters of the story, Emil and Elise. Elise is scared of everything and rarely leaves her house, she is sad, she is lonely and her house is grey. One day a paper aeroplane flies through her window and soon after there is a knock at the door, a boy comes into her house and brings colour back into Elise’s life. The children will explore the pictures and text, writing a diary entry of a weekend at Elise’s house from the perspective of Emil and a letter from Elise to Emil. Finally the children will write their own colour poems in the style of the poet Christina Rossetti.
